(B) It was a long time coming, but the Taichung National Opera House is finally open for business. _(40)_ This futuristic, multi-media-capable structure is going to put Taichung on the map.     As early as 1992, Taiwan's central government proposed a National Musical House. Ten years later, due to the efforts of Jason Hu, the then KMT mayor of Taichung, the government considered locating the National Musical House in his city. Toyo Ito and 32 other architects from 12 countries contributed their design plans. _(41)_ The Taichung National Opera House, as it is now named, opened in November of 2014.    The structure is nothing short of eye-popping. The Opera House is situated in a huge park surrounded by high-tech skyscrapers. The building is basically rectangular but is covered by wavy designs, breaking the straight-line edges of so many tedious, modern buildings. The architect Ito has included eco-friendly features into the total design. _(42)_ The materials used in the building are recyclable. Even the building's shape should reduce energy consumption.    The inside of the Opera House is even more exciting. The Grand Theater is the crown jewel of the building, seating 2014 art lovers for each performance. _(43)_   _(44)_ Now, the city has also marked itself as a center for the arts with the completion of the Taichung National Opera House. Even without an ongoing performance, a walk through the Opera House is a feast for the eyes. You will be forgiven if you think you have been abducted in a UFO. (教一)
