問題詳情

(B)A paradise that lies on the Island of Papua New Guinea was recently unveiled to humanity. This amazing world harbors creatures that were thought to be long lost as well as several completely new species. A team of scientists from Indonesia, America, and Australia spent 15 days exploring and recording the richly abundant flora and fauna of this most easterly part of Indonesia.        It's a lost world that is deep in the forest, constantly shrouded in mist, situated on top of the Foja Mountains, and impossible to access except by helicopter. There are no roads or trails in or out, and there are no people, either. As a result, many of the creatures found showed no fear of humans, allowing the scientists to move extremely close and even handle them.     So what secret treasures did this uniquely remote location give up? A new species of bird called the orange-faced honeyeater, the golden-fronted bowerbird, the golden-mantled tree kangaroo, and many other wonders were found here. In addition, more than 20 new species of frogs, including a tiny frog less than 14 mm long, are now known. Previously unknown plant species, including five new palms and a rhododendron with an amazing flower some 15 cm across, were discovered. Four new butterfly species were also found and the solution to a 100-year-old mystery was solved. Called the Six-wired Bird of Paradise, the obscure bird was first described in 1897, but its origins were unknown until the expedition found its breeding grounds.     Such exceptional, unspoiled areas must be preserved and, reassuringly, the leader of the expedition is confident that the forest is secure as his group works with the Indonesian Government and native tribes to preserve this wonderful find.
