(C) The CIA is an American organization which gathers information about foreign countries via covert operations and espionage in order to advise the president and other government policymakers about issues of national security. You may have seen portrayals of CIA agents handling futuristic gadgets in the movies. However, the truth is often a little more subdued. In its near 65-year history, the CIA has also been involved in some high-profile scandals, including the tapping of civilian phones, and been connected with several assassination plots.
