問題詳情

(E)Taipei 101 towers 508 meters tall above the ground. To build such a tall tower on the land that is frequently hit by earthquakes, the scientists had spent eight months studying the ground where Taipei 101 stood. They finally decided to pin the building to the rock below. Seven hundred thousand tons of earth was taken away and 382 piles were bored 80 meters into the ground. It took a total of 15 months to prepare the foundation. In September, 1999, the scientists began to build the tower. Five kinds of steel were carefully used. They were not only hard enough to hold the building but also pliable enough not to break in an earthquake. On March 31, 2002, a 6.8 earthquake hit Taipei 101 before it was finished. After a 4-month check, the building was believed to pass the test successfully, and it continued to grow. After creating a building that was strong enough for large earthquakes, the scientists had to make sure it could stand the great winds of summer typhoons. They hang a giant steel ball, the Tuned Mass Damper (TMD), in the center of the tower between 92 and 87 floor. The TMD helpfully reduced the shaking of the tower during strong winds.ton pile 柱子 foundation地基  steel鋼筋  pliable 有彈性的
