IV. Reading comprehension: 24% (每題2分) (A.) For years, experts on heart disease have been telling us to eat low-fat, low cholesterol diets. They used to think that this would help avoid heart disease. However, in recent years,new evidence has challenged this dietary advice. Diet and heart disease experts now encourage eating a diet like that consumed in the Mediterranean. They believe that Mediterraneanfood is best suited for fighting heart disease. The Mediterranean diet is not necessarily a low-fat one. Advising people not to worry so much about fat is contrary to prior advice. Thisdemonstrates a new change in attitude toward diet. Scientists now say that low-fat diets are not the answer. Rather, the quality of the fat you eat is the key. Telling people they were safeif they cut down on fat had a flaw in its logic. The flaw was that people then overate other things such as sugar. People concentrated too much on fat.       A problem with the old dietary advice is that it gave people free reign to overeat simple and refined carbohydrates. These types of carbohydrates are found in sugar and white flour.They lead to weight problems, diabetes, and heart disease. Instead, people should consume a diet rich in vegetables and fruits, whole grains, nuts, unsaturated vegetable oils, and proteinfrom fish, beans, and chicken. They should not eat red meat such as beef. They should eat the food which Mediterranean people have been consuming for ages.       It is now clear that good health not only relies on decreasing the amount of fat in our diet, but also on the quality of the fat we eat. We can continue to eat delicious food whileavoiding heart disease. Mediterranean food is rich with all kinds of tasty dishes. So this can be the answer for the food lover as well as for the health-conscious person.
