問題詳情

World Vision Taiwan announced recently that it aims to raise NT$18 million in 2012 in its annual fund-raising campaign to help aboriginal children in central Taiwan go to school. The initiative has raised more than NT$84 million since it was launched in 1999, and has helped over 15,000 schoolchildren. The money collected this year will be used to pay for school fees, room and transportation costs, and after-school programs for children in rural villages in Nantou County and Taichung City. Funds in the past have been used to build seven recreational classrooms and a basketball court. It’s a fact that resources for children in rural areas have long been limited, even though the resources in their hearts are abundant. Every child has a dream, and it takes the encouragement and support of the public to help realize those dreams. It is believed that aboriginal children in rural villages face many challenges which people living in relatively comfortable cities can hardly imagine. Many of them have to walk or commute long distances to school, are subject to threats from natural disasters, and are often raised by their grandparents because their parents leave their villages to work in cities.“Your help gave us support. Whenever I want to give up, I remind myself of the many people at World Vision Taiwan who have helped me,” said a young man who has received funds from the charity for the past 13 years and is now a graduate student. It is through the help and donations of warm-hearted people throughout Taiwan that more aboriginal children can grow up to be like this promising young man.
