When the ex-convict realized what he had done, he couldn’t help16 ashamed. Wth the Bishop’s words of encouragement 17 his mind, his fury andbitterness had somehow vanished. It turned out that the Bishop’s generous love had 18 hishatred for the world. From that moment on, Jean Valjean was completely free and became achanged person.
