問題詳情

III 閱讀測驗:(20%)     A new trend of live streaming videos has taken the world by storm. According to someresearch, the amount of time people spend watching video online has increased more than fourfoldsince 2011. Social networking websites and platforms such as Facebook, Snapchat, and YouTube alloffer live video streaming service. Take Facebook for example. It is said that its chief executive,Mark Zuckerberg, immediately put 100 of the company’s top engineers on developing new videoproducts when he saw the data showing an incredibly high amount of time users spend on video in ameeting. Then in late 2015, Facebook launched its live video streaming service to its users.Zuckerberg said he wanted a product that would support all the “personal and emotional and rawand visceral” ways in which people communicate.    However, like a two-edge sword, this live video streaming service has its pros and cons. Whilemost people use it to share either casual or important moments of their lives, broadcasting from aball game to a birthday party to a friend’s proposal, some have taken advantage of it to broadcastsinister videos, such as murders, suicides and torture. This kind of violent videos often go viral, with some drawing millions of viewers within a few days. For instance, in Chicago last month, twoteenage boys broadcast themselves gang-raping a teen girl.     A more shocking incident happened this Easter Sunday. A Cleveland man armed with a handgun post video of himself shooting a bystander on the street in cold blood on his Facebookpage, and then confessed his crime through live streaming service--in real time. Although Facebookdisabled the suspect’s profile page within 3 hours after the initial posting, the video of the shootinghad already spread across the social network and other social media, with more than 150,000 views.    With such violent videos going viral online, the tech companies behind these social media andnetworks have come under severe criticism. Not unaware of this negative side to live-streamingservice, Facebook has created a set of tools for users to flag them and alert law enforcement. Whenusers flag such content, it is then sent to a global team of professionals within 24 hours. But criticscomment that within that length of time, inappropriate videos can be viewed millions of times, andthat it is too late for the victims, for it’s happening as you see it.
