六、閱讀測驗:@ 3分,15%         Aesop’s Fables have been translated into almost every language in the world, but do you know who Aesop was and why he told these stories? Legend has it that Aesop lived during the 6th century B.C., although no one knows for sure when he was born. Some say that he was born a slave, and in his lifetime two different masters owned him, and he often delighted his masters by telling stories. The slave masters were Xanthus and Iadmon, and the latter gave him his freedom as a reward for his wits and intelligence. After being freed, he became involved in public affairs and travelled a lot, telling his fables along the way. Finally, King Croesus of Lydia was so impressed with Aesop that he offered him a job and a place to live at his court. There are no records to prove that Aesop ever wrote any stories down, but fortunately, many years after his death, people started to write down the fables Aesop collected, so the stories could be shared all over the world.
