The family moved to America when he was 13, hoping for a better life. And for the same reason, a classroom education was just a dream for him because he had to work to help pay the bills. But he was smart and hard-working, so he moved to better and better jobs, from factory worker to factory master. He opened his own business in 1865, and later turned to making steel. He made a large amount of money when he sold his steel company in 1901.But Carnegie did not care only about money. He believed in the equality of all people, and he also believed in the power of education. That was why he donated money to open more than 2800 public libraries and to support schools and scientific research.
