問題詳情
He’s worked with everyone who’s anyone. That includes the likes of Lady Gaga. Naomi Campbell, Kris Kristopherson, Chris Rock, Quetin Tarantino, John Mayer, Paris Hilton, Alicia Keys, and dozens more. What does he do? He photographs and films them and his pictures and videos have become the hottest counter-culture property on the planet. Who is this person? David LaChapelle. For more than a hundred years, photography has served as historian, entertainer, journalist, and art form. Most photographs show realism or things the way they are. As entertainment, however, pictures can show people’s creativity and imagination. David LaChapelle’s work is definitely in this category. His use of color, surrealism, and a celebrity or two have shocked, amused, and inspired countless people for a generation. If you see a photo and catch yourself asking what on Earth it is, it is probably a piece of art by David LaChapelle. He has even produced photographic memorials to the recently deceased, such as his tributes to Michael Jackson and the actor Dennis Hopper. LaChapelle’s style is unique. No other photographer has combined design, color, suggestion, and even humor with such power. Many of his pictures are portraits while others tell stories. Some of his pictures look messy and cluttered. On closer examination, however, one can easily appreciate his attention to detail. Every object in his photographs is placed with a purpose because he leaves nothing to chance. LaChapelle seems to be screaming, “Welcome to the 21st century!” with his signature work. Though hundreds of adjectives have been used to describe his art, perhaps one is the most accurate—bold. He makes no apologies for his often sexy, violent, and confrontational views. You may neither love nor hate his work, but you will have a reaction to his art. Such is the impact of one of the greatest artists of our time.
