It is also the entire foundation and starting point foreducation. 51  Yet, many parents encounter problems teaching children to read well.Many parents believe that the earlier their children start recognizing letters, thebetter. 52  For example, a child may know the alphabet, but often he or she is not able to makeout the word that a group of letters represents. Reading is a complex process and it isnot easy for a young child to learn to identify words in print. 53  Oncechildren are forced to read, it stops being pleasurable to them. This keeps somechildren from becoming fluent readers.One method that parents can use to help children become good readers is to readto them every day from an early age. The ideal time to begin sharing books withchildren is during babyhood. 54  Parents should help their children choosebooks that are not too difficult and are about interesting topics.However, there are times when, despite parents’ positive efforts, children may stillhave difficulty in reading. One reason is because they may suffer from dyslexia.55  In this case, parents must seek professional help and be prepared to doeverything they can to support their children.
