(E) what(AB) transportingThe world is on the brink of a major global food crisis. Even people living in developed nations, who once thought that food shortages and hunger only occurred in poor or developing countries, are starting to feel the __41__ through ever increasing food prices. Natural __42__ and population growth have always affected supply and demand when it comes to food. However, in today’s world, other factors are contributing to this, such as global warming, which seems to be causing more crop __43__. The energy shortage, a crisis in itself, is also worsening the food crisis, since a large amount of land that was available for growing food is now being used to grow crops to produce bio¬-fuels. __44__, limited exports from food-¬producing nations that are keeping most of their crops for themselves and investors gambling that food prices will continue to rise are adding to shortages and driving prices sky high. So, what does this all mean? To the developing world, it means more hunger and food riots, as even food staples such as corn, wheat, and rice are in short supply. To the rest of the world, it means higher and higher prices due to these shortages and the increasing cost of __45__ food. There is no need to worry about a global famine right now. However, it is time to start doing something to prevent one. Unfortunately, there is no easy solution. Perhaps the best thing for us to do is to be even more thankful for __46__ we have and try not to waste anything.
