(2) Twesigye Kaguri earned a college degree in his hometown in Uganda before moving toAmerica to study at Colombia University. When he returned with his wife in 2001, he foundUganda had been devastated by the spread of AIDS. The disease had claimed the lives ofcountless people, leaving over a million children as AIDS orphans. Kaguri wanted to do morethan just donate, so he decided to construct a school. He wanted to pass on the sameopportunities he had received through education. He bought two acres of farmland andopened the Nyaka School in 2003. Many villagers, including his own father, were opposed tothe idea. Kaguri showed patience and educated those opposed, eventually winning them over.Kaguri started a program to give children two nutritious meals a day, made sure they receivedhealth care, and gave them school supplies. Kaguri raised funds for the school in America, andsoon a second school opened in a nearby village. Today, there are almost 600 students at theschools. Kaguri hopes to build more schools in Uganda and expand into other developingcountries. He believes educating students isn’t just charity. Rather, it is an investment in thefuture.could be different. Therefore, they start picturing all the things that could go wrong.
