These are filled with bones from the overcrowded cemeteries of those who died long ago. If you are ever in Buenos Aires in Argentina, check out the Recoleta Cemetery. Make sure you stop by the tomb of Eva Peron. The rest of the cemetery is filled with much to look at, from the gates to the mausoleums and statues. Finally, in New Orleans, cemetery visitors will see graves above ground. This is because the city lies below sea level and flooding used to move coffins around underground. In 1795, the St. Louis cemetery started burying people above ground. The tombs now look like little houses, and cemeteries are now referred to as “cities of the dead.”
