(B) Mexico City is a megacity with a serious trash problem. Even so, it has launched a creative measure aimed at reducing waste that was an instant hit with its 21 . Thousands of locals now make regular visits to a barter market where they can exchange their trash for food vouchers. They bring along glass, plastic, and cardboard waste that they have already 22 . Everything is then weighed and exchanged for food vouchers. The food vouchers are special because they can only be 23 at a nearby farmers’ market. The vendors all hail from local farms, which also benefits the local economy. The Mercado de Trueque began in March of 2012.
