二、閱讀測驗 共5題,每題2分,共10分      People have many ideas about what aliens might look and act like. H.G. Wells’ classicnovel War of the Worlds, first published in 1898, depicted aliens as violent creatures thatplanned on invading the Earth. In 1938, the American actor and film director Orson Wells hadWar of the Worlds adapted for a sixty-minute radio program. In his version, the aliens attackedNew Jersey, one of America’s eastern states. When Orson Wells broadcast the drama live on theradio, thousands of listeners panicked because they thought it was a real news report. So eventhen, many people believed that evil aliens could actually exist.   Since then, other books and films, like Steven Spielberg’s 1982 movie E.T., have featuredpeaceful and lovable aliens, not monsters from outer space. But like the creatures in War of theWorlds, these aliens have also been depicted as intelligent life forms.    Are there really any life forms out in space, let alone intelligent ones? Many scientists predict they’ll find aliens that crawl but can’t necessarily communicate. But just in caseintelligent aliens do exist, scientists at the SETI(Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institutesend powerful radio transmissions into space and listen for responses.
