III. Cloze (每題1分;共15分) 【A】 Robert Frost was one of the greatest American poets of the twentieth century. He was a Pulitzer Prize winner for Poetry. From his poems, said President John F. Kennedy, “Americans will forever gain joy and understanding.” His works have to generations of readers. Most of his poems nature and everyday events that explore deep aspects of human experience. “The Road Not Taken” is a fine example. When in England, Edward Thomas, Frost's friend, often chose routes at random to take a walk with Frost. However, he always complained that they could even lovelier scenery if it had not been for his choice. This may have inspired Frost to write this poem, which captures the dilemma human decisionmaking. In the poem, the speaker, a traveler, is to make a choice two routes, a symbol of making a decision in life. The speaker chooses the less used one, knowing just as many people have probably taken it. He decides to walk the first road at a time, although he knows that such a possibility is very small. In reality, the first road is not really from the second one. We all have to make important decisions in life. However, once we make up our mind, there is no going back. People trouble making important decisions about their future should read this poem. They should always keep in mind that it is they themselves make the final choice. Whether the decision is good or bad, it is no use regretting what has been done.
