問題詳情

(B) Baseball is played all over the world, but its origins are still unclear. No one really knows where baseball came from. Most people think of baseball as an American game, and one popular story is that Abner Doubleday invented the game in Cooperstown, New York. In truth, it most likely came from England and Ireland where ball-and-bat games have been played since the 1500s. The game has also been called “base-ball,” “townball,” and “roundball.”      The first time anyone mentions the word “baseball” was in 1744. In 1755, there is a written description of a baseball game in Surrey, England. The game’s popularity really started in the 1850s when the people of New York went crazy for it. They created professional leagues to watch during the summer months and the rules were decided. By 1903, there were Major League baseball teams who played by the rules we know today.
