問題詳情

57.~60.題為題組      Wikipedia was started in 2001 by an American dot-com entrepreneur Jimmy Wales. Inthe beginning, all his friends considered it crazy to launch an online encyclopedia that couldbe written and edited by anyone at any time, but Wales had great faith in his idea. He wantedto create a world where every single person could enjoy “free access to the sum of allknowledge.”      Wales' idea proves to be a great success. Wikipedia now has over six million articles in250 languages and is one of the twelve most-visited websites in the world. With usersworldwide constantly revising and updating the website on a daily basis, its information isalways up-to-date. This is a competitive edge Wikipedia enjoys over regular printencyclopedias. On the other hand, the fact that Wikipedia is written by volunteers, not strictlyprofessionals, does raise some doubts as to the accuracy of its content. Also, articles byamateur writers can be poorly structured and thus unclear. However, a study by Nature, ascience journal, found that Wikipedia is actually quite accurate. It does have some errors, butso do print encyclopedias. Jimmy Wales has successfully carried out his dream to provide thesum of all knowledge free for all.
