As ofthe end of 2010, most convenient stores were in New Taipei, Taipei and Taoyuan, with 20.2%,15.3% and 11.7% of total stores, respectively. Density was highest in Taipei, followed by Hsinchuand Chiayi.Suen Li-chiun, spokesman for the commission, told the newspaper that the fair trade regulatorbegan investigating whether the stores take advantage of their prevalence to push down prices orgive preferential treatment to various product manufacturers.Convenience stores in Taiwan do far more than sell sundries. Shoppers can withdraw money,book train tickets, collect goods ordered online, eat and even send their clothes for a wash.According to another survey, people in Taiwan have become dependent on convenient stores overthe past few years. More than 40% of people in the country visit a convenience store at least onceper day, while more than 70% pay their bills there. More than 20% eat meals in the stores, and someparents even ask stores to babysit their children when they are not available. The most frequentlyused services are, according to the survey, payment of bills and traffic tickets.
