More than half of the world’s sea turtles have consumed plastic and other trash, which may block their gilts, pierce the gut wall, or even release toxic chemicals into the body tissues. 39 Many are aware that plastic straws are one of the top culprits. 40 In Taiwan alone, three billion plastic straws are used every year. To make thingsworse, plastic straws are not compostable and are costly to recycle. 41 He turned to paper for a solution and came up with an eco-friendly, foldable, paper straw. The design comes flat in a paper package. Users tear open the package and then gently push the straw until it assumes a cylinder shape. 42 Gone are the days when straws were only made of plastic. There are all types of straws, glass, stainless steel, or even bamboo.
