問題詳情

四、閱讀測驗  There are three areas─North Africa, southern Europe, and the Middle East─surrounding the Mediterranean (地中海). Each of them has different essential foods used to welcome relatives and guests. However, the Mediterranean culture remains very traditional in its foods, and it might be hard for people from other cultures to accept the foods there.       It is important to know that the Mediterranean has little beef, so sheep and fish are very popular. However, eating some of the dishes may be a challenge for foreign guests. For example, sheep head is a favorite dish in the Middle East and the eyes are usually saved for significant guests. Middle East people like their sheep to be overweight. These sheep are called “mutton” and they often contain much fat. In addition, raw fish is a delicacy (佳餚) in the Mediterranean, and in some cases the fish are served and eaten while they are still alive. Their bodies are often still moving on the plate long after they have been caught.       Food is very important to the Mediterranean culture as it is to most cultures. When the local people have guests, they serve their favorite foods as a treat to show respect and admiration for the guests. Therefore, it is important not to offend the host by refusing to eat or showing dislike or fear of these foods. It would be better to try these foods and offer your thanks. By doing this, you not only show your respect for the host’s culture, but also gain an amazing experience of trying something that is more unique than unpleasant.
