The city is well known for its rolling hills, cable cars, the Golden GateBridge, and its quick changing weather. The city itself is located on a hilly peninsula,which is separated from the mainland by a body of water about 1.6 km wide and 88km long called Golden Gate. San Francisco is famous for its steep hills. Cars share space with cable cars thatare packed with tourists. With so many tourists riding the cable cars, the lines to get onthe cable cars are very long and the cars move fairly slowly from one area to another.The city is also well-known for being very liberal and is home to many famous artists.Haight-Ashbury is the area that the musical group, the Grateful Dead, lived in duringthe 60s. People offer boat tours into the bay, including tours to Alcatraz, and trips tosmall islands in the bay area. There are also a lot of great seafood restaurants in thisarea as well.Though San Francisco is a densely populated area, Golden Gate Park on the westside of the city offers lots of space. For people who want an even wider natural spaceto wander in, then getting out of the city to the north is quick and easy. To the northlies Napa Valley, the home of the best wineries in America. And beyond that is theRedwood Forest, where the largest trees in the world can be seen.
