三、閱讀測驗閱讀測驗一2003年的諾貝爾化學獎，頒給了兩位美國科學家：約翰霍普金斯大學醫學院的阿格雷（Peter Agre）與洛克斐勒大學霍華休斯醫學研究中心的麥金農（Roderick MacKinnon），他們獲獎的研究都與細胞膜上的通道有關。生命現象與水脫不了關係。當細胞以雙層磷脂質組成的細胞膜隔出內外，阻絕了水與離子的通透，使得如何維持細胞膜內外滲透壓的平衡，就變得非常重要了。長久以來，科學家便知道細胞膜上有一些蛋白質，負責細胞內外物質的滲透，能夠選擇性地細胞內外的物質進行交換。然而，水分子如何進出細胞，則一直是個謎。直到 1988年，阿格雷成功從人類紅血球分離出一種膜蛋白，在經過多種分析後，他確定這就是大家尋覓已久的水通道。阿格雷將之命名「aquaporin」，意即「水孔」。到了 2000年，阿格雷與其他的研究團隊合作，做出了 aquaporin蛋白質三維結構的高解析度影像，使他們得以進一步研究這個水通道的詳細作用機制。Aquaporin的形狀，正是它只能讓水分子通過的原因。水分子會成單一縱列，進入彎曲狹窄的通道，通道中的極性與偶極力會幫助水分子旋轉，以適當的角度擠過狹窄的通道；而通道中有一個帶正電的區域，會排斥帶正電的離子，便可以避免水合質子偷渡。科學家在其他生物身上，也發現了類似的水通道，從細菌、植物到動物都有。光是人類身上，就有至少 11種水通道蛋白質，而植物的水通道蛋白質數量更多，種類也高達 35種。【節錄自科學人網站】
