Otherwise, you’ll suffer from the curse of the goddess Macha and experience pains similar to giving birth.     The story goes that the red-headed Irish goddess Macha was famous for being able to run very fast, and her husband liked to show off her skills. When the king heard about it, he challenged her to race against his horses. Macha asked to be excused because she was expecting her babies. However, the king insisted and said he would kill her husband if she didn’t race. Macha raced against the horses and she easily won. However, right after the race, she gave birth to her twin babies in a field. That was not a good experience.     Macha was so angry that she cursed the men to suffer from horrible pains every time they came across a red-headed woman, as if they themselves were giving birth. Although the curse was only supposed to last for nine generations in the story, some Irish men today would still turn away when they see a red-headed woman. They do not want to experience great pains at all.
