Gore appeared at the meeting a day after winning the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in fighting climate change. An Inconvenient Truth, a film about global warming starring Gore, won an Academy Award earlier in 2007 and brought the world’s attention to this problem. Another important announcement at the conference was the news that Kevin Rudd, the new leader of Australia, would sign the Kyoto Protocol after he took office.
