問題詳情
Humans have always had a deep fascination with themoon. Themoon isin synchronousrotation withthe earth and isthe brightest objectin the sky afterthe sun. However, itssurface is actually dark, with areflectance just a little higherthan that of worn asphalt. Its prominence in the sky and itsregular cycle ofphases have, since ancienttimes, made themoon an important culturalrole in language, calendars, art andmythology. One can imagine our earliest cave‐dwelling ancestors gazing up atthe nightsky in wonder. Surely, theymust have reached outtheir hands, stretching theirfingersto try to grasp it.When human finally reached themoon in 1969,this “giantleap formankind,” asArmstrong putit, represented the fulfillment of a dreameven olderthanwritten human history. Since the firstlunarmission,Apollo 11, astronauts have returned to themoon surface severaltimes.Having touched themoon’sface, this old dreamwasreplaced by a new one:finding away to build a lunar colony so that people could adaptto the weather and finally live there.Focus has now turned toward learning ifthere is anywater on themoon. The existence ofwaterbasically determineswhether or notit would be possible to inhabitthemoon. Scientists know thatliquidwater cannot existthere ─ the intense solarradiaƟon would quickly break it down into hydrogen and oxygen. They speculate theremay be ice in the polarregions, for example, in the permanentshadows of craters.Shielded fromsunlight, temperaturesin these areas can be aslowas ‐170℃.Will it be possible to live on themoon? Future lunar exploration and scientific studieswill hold the answer.
