三、閱讀測驗 (10%) Peanuts, a famous American comic strip, was created in the late 1940s by Charles M. Schulz. After its popularity increased, it was also the source of many popular TV programs. By 1960, the Peanuts characters, especially the main character Charlie Brown and his dog Snoopy, were well known all over the U.S. In 1965, the Coca-Cola Company had the idea of including some images of Coke in an animated Peanuts television special to sell more drinks. Thus, the idea of Peanuts on television was born.  The first Peanuts special was called “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” In it, Charlie Brown learns that the true spirit of Christmas is not just about gifts but about sharing love with family and friends. The special was an immediate success, and has been shown for longer than any other animated cartoon special in history－Americans have enjoyed it every Christmas season for over forty years.  Afterward, new Peanuts television specials appeared once or twice a year for about twenty years. Frequent subjects included holidays, sports, and friendships. In the late 1980s, perhaps because of the popularity of new comics, such as Garfield and Doonesbury, the Peanuts TV specials were produced less frequently. However, certain specials, like “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” continue to be watched by millions of people every year.  Today, the Peanuts comic strips and TV shows are also popular in many other countries.
