五、閱讀測驗10%    Onequestion that always comes to mind when we think of Michael Jacksonis: Why did his skin turn white? There were many rumors about whyhis skin color changed, but most people just assumed that he wantedto be "white." The truth is that Jackson had a diseasecalled vitiligo, which is when your own body attacks the cells thatmake melanin, the pigment that gives your skin its color. Whena person gets vitiligo, milky white spots start to appear in thebody; those are the places where there is no pigment, orcolor, in the skin.   Jackson'sbehavior is just like the behavior of a person that has vitiligo. When a person has vitiligo, white spots usually first appear on thehands and on the lips, which would explain why Jackson startedwearing gloves and lipstick. After Jackson got vitiligo, he startedto become very depressed as well. This is very common for people withvitiligo, and is usually caused by the bad treatment they get fromother people.   Thereis no cure for vitiligo, and scientists do not know what causes it.Some scientists believe that vitiligo is inherited, meaning you canget it if your parents had it too. Other scientists think that a verybad sunburn, or a very stressful situation can cause vitiligo.
