問題詳情

Modern dance is one of the major artistic dance styles in the world today, but what exactly is modern dance?  The best way to understand what modern dance is, is to understand what it is not. It represented a rejection of the classical ballet tradition. The founders of the modern dance movement felt that ballet had too many rules and was out of date. They decided to develop a new kind of dance they felt would be appropriate for the 20th century.  For this reason they refused to use some of the elements that had been considered essential in the older style. For example, unlike ballet, modern dance shows often did not tell stories. Sometimes the dancers would speak as well as dance. The music and costumes were different, and sometimes there would be no music at all!  Modern dance rebelled against the old traditions. It made some people angry at first, but eventually came to be broadly accepted.
