III. Blank-filling: 10%     Medical microchips are believed to offer the easiest treatment ever. Medicine can be swallowed, injected, inhaled or delivered to the bloodstream through a time-release implant. Scientists say that they have devised a new way to give patients their medicine: through a finger –size microchip embedded in the body that doctors can control 21 via wireless connection. The medical microchips may successfully replace time - 22 medical practice.     The drug chip, more than a dozen years in the making, was used to deliver bone-strengthening hormones to women with 23 osteoporosis who otherwise would have needed daily injections. After four months, the chips were safely removed from the patients’ bodies, scientists reported at a meeting in Vancouver of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.     Like peacemakers and other implantable electronic tools, the chips are controlled by radio waves in a dedicated medical frequency band. But instead of delivering an electric signal to the body, they deliver a24 signal. This technology ccan be ideal for treating condition that requires regular pulse of medication, including pain, infertility and perhaps even diabetes. In addition to eliminating the need for needles, the chips would make it much easier for patients to comply 25 complicated drug regimens.     Patients reported that they were not bothered by the implements once they were implanted. Besides, the medicine itself was delivered 26 . As many as 70 percent of patients who are prescribed hormone therapy for osteoporosis do not conform 27 the dosing directions, which ask daily injections for up to two years. The major advantage of the chip is that the patient takes every dose that is prescribed. The chip is more reliable than the patient.     Eventually, the drug- 28 chips can be used to deliver any drug – or combination of drugs—that is potent enough to be administered in the tiny doses that the device can store. Microchips can theoretically be used to deliver a wide array of medicines, but they would be 29 only for drugs that treat serious illnesses. Scientists express that it would take at least another four years to get an osteoporosis drug approved for the marketplace. In the meantime, the chips with 365 wells 30 to accommodate a year’s worth of daily doses will be developed.
