問題詳情

[2] On Friday, November 4, 2011, six astronauts returned from an 18-month trip to Mars. In fact, they didn't travel to the Red Planet at all, and never even left Earth. The three Russians, two Americans, and one Chinese man spent 520 days locked in a specially-adapted container in a Moscow parking lot. The six men were volunteers in an experiment to find out what a real journey to Mars might be like.      Since they did not leave the ground, the astronauts did not experience any weightlessness. Everything else, however, was arranged to be as close as possible to the real experience. It included all the stress, tiredness, and confinement that a round trip to Mars would have. The men's living area was completely enclosed. It was about the size of a bus, with connected areas for exercise and research work. The experiment took place at Moscow's Institute for Medical and Biological Problems, a center for space medicine.      The high costs and technical challenges mean that a real mission to Mars is probably still decades away. Nevertheless, the experiment gave researchers a good idea of the psychological difficulties that astronauts would face on such a trip. The six men emerged in good spirits, however, and all said they had had no problems getting along with each other. They also said they had spent a lot of their free time learning one another's languages and playing musical instruments.
