Kites flying at night over the houses weresupposed to keep evil spirits away.Americans used kites to try out new ideas in science. Benjamin Franklin hung a metal keyfrom a kite string. He showed that lightning was electricity. The Wright brothers used kites to liftthemselves into the air. Later they made one of the first airplanes.Kites are easiest to fly in open spaces. The wind should be blowing between 5 and 15 miles anhour. With less wind, it’s hard to lift a kite. With too much wind, a kite is hard to handle.
