問題詳情

C.We all want to show our loyalty to our employers, but working incredibly hard can impact a person’s life quite negatively. Take, for example, the sad phenomenon that has made news headlines recently. Some people, in order to prove their loyalty to their boss, manage to work themselves to death! In Japan they even have a word for it, karoshi, which literally means death from overwork. Victims of karoshi were known to put in 100 hours of overtime each month! Estimates put the number of Japanese workers killed by karoshi per year at 10,000. For example, there’s the restaurant manager who died after doing 100 hours of overtime for six months. And he was just 32! Another man, employed by a major corporation, died at work with an irregular heartbeat. He had put in 106 hours of overtime and was just 30!
