During his 22-year baseball career, he pitched for five different teams, and compiled 511 wins, 94 ahead of Walter Johnson, who is second on the list of most wins in Major League history. Moreover, Young still holds the Major League records for most career innings pitched, most career games started, and most complete games. He also won at least 30 games in a season five times,with ten other seasons of 20 or more wins. Young was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937. In 1956,about one year after Young's death, the Cy Young Award was first introduced in honor of this legendary pitcher.   The Cy Young Award is an honor given annually to the best pitchers in Major League Baseball (MLB), one for the American League (AL) and one for the National League (NL). Each league's award is voted on by members of the Baseball Writers Association of America, with two writers representing each team; that means 28 votes are cast for the AL winner, and 32 votes are cast for the NL. Each writer is to vote for three different pitchers: the first-place vote receives five points, the second-place vote receives three points, and the third-place vote receives one point. The pitcher with the highest score in each league wins the award. If two pitchers receive the same score, the award is shared.     The first recipient of the Cy Young Award was Don Newcombe, and the most recent winners are Roy Halladay, from the National League, and Félix Hernández, from the American League. In 1978, Gaylord Perry (aged 40)became the oldest pitcher to receive the award, only to have the record broken in 2004 by Roger Clemens. The
youngest recipient was Dwight Gooden (aged 20 in 1985).
