問題詳情

61-65 題為題組      People who are born handicapped live in a world full of challenges, always struggling hard to survivein an environment built for the “normal person.” Although everyone knows that the disabled are not toblame for their conditions, the society does not show enough regard for their situation and the environmentdoes not allow them much room of convenience. The condition is especially serious in publictransportation stations in Taiwan. Seldom is there a facility in a public area that is truly “user-friendly” forthe disabled. It seems that no matter where they go, there are obstacles in or along the way. It is next toimpossible for the blind or even people in wheelchairs to get around safely in public places in Taiwan. Infact, the physically challenged also complain about unclear signs and directions in public transportationstations; there is no way for them to purchase a ticket, let alone board the mass transit on their own, just byfollowing the instructions on the signs. Busy streets during rush hours are even worse as they are morehazardous than jungles with ferocious wildlife, ready to claim a life at any moment. The entireenvironment poses a threat to the handicapped, and as a result, most are imprisoned in their homes. Thissocial issue deserves far more attention than it is receiving; however, much has been said and little has beendone. What the society needs is fewer slogans and more constructive help to build an obstacle-freeenvironment.
61. Why is it “next to impossible for the handicapped to get around safely”?
(A) Because of lack of equipment.
