問題詳情

VI. Reading Comprehension (8%)    Theterm “helicopter parents” was coined in the 1990s to referto parents who hover around their children, just as helicopters hoverabove the ground. These parents pay very close attention to theirchildren from birth and even when they are employed. These parentscan sometimes do more harm than good to their children, as they donot allow their children to lead their own lives.    Whentheir children are in school, these parents will do their children’sassignments and phone their children’s schools to check on them oreven complain about their roommates. This behavior is seen in theoffice also. When the children of helicopter parents start working, their parents phone employers and discuss payments, working hours, and office conditions. These parents even check their children’se-mails and bank statements. Therefore, employers are becoming morecareful about who they hire. If they suspect that their employeeshave helicopter parents, they may even refuse them the job. Employersthink that these children are not adult enough to manage adult jobs, since they are so influenced by their parents.    Thus, helicopter parents can do a lot of harm to their children. However, some children find this behavior helpful as their parents do a lot ofwork for them. In conclusion, it should be said that while it is niceto help children, parents should also allow their children to livetheir own lives.
